Donkey Huddle

Donkey Huddle
Donkeys cluster about the feeding trough at the Donkey Sanctuay. They appear to be in a conversation listening to the one facing away from the viewer. One is concentrating with ears perked.

Pelican Vigil
Pelican Vigil by Linda RichterA lone pelican stands upon a rocky outcropping. Misty air cuts him off from his fellows. He is alone for the moments. What is he thinking behind that intense gaze?

Trupial Brunch
Trupial Brunch by Linda RichterThe trupial as a regular garden visitor flashes a bright yellow and black but only up close can you see the dab of blue eye shadow.

The traditional Bonairean kadushi cactus fence made from straight tips cut and interlocked against a wire fence. If done with skill, the cactus pieces take root and the fence becomes a living and growing thing. The cactuses flower and produce fruit creating the perfect brunch line for a pair of trupials. Many other birds and animals will join the buffet line like our native prikitchis and even fruit bats.

Flamingo World © Linda Richter

Flamingo World
Why call this painting Flamingo World? While it could have been Flamingo Head or Flamingo Neck one of the most striking elements to this painting is the swirling water with the mix of greens, turquoise, white and beige. In many ways, it reminds me of the space photos of the Earth. It is also the world of the flamingo stalking the waters for food. So Flamingo World it is.

December 2005
Ringing out the old year and bring in the new - greeting guests with...

Who's There?
Always a character, Bonaire’s native parakeet the prikichi shows its natural curiosity. Lean to the side, a dip of the neck, and a look around the corner let’s the prikichi know who is coming. Friends are greeted with chatter and whistles. Foes face a screeching wrath.

November 2005
November was an interesting month for painting. Linda took a slight departure from her usual Bonaire subjects to paint creatures from her recent trips. Never fear Linda's brilliant colors are always present.

One Frog, Three Frogs.
Green, Blue, and Yellow Frogs.
"If you are a frog lover like I am, you can't resist these little cuties." Linda

Poison Arrow frogs in various colors hide along the rainforest floor. The tiny frogs have been greatly enlarged to show the drama of their form and color. Each is solitary in its own frame and yet they are part of the whole environment.

Koi in Blue

October 2005 - Fishing Lessons
Fishing Lessons © 2005 Linda RichterThe adult Brown pelican glides across the ocean in search of fish schools. Once found he sharply dives, plummeting into the water to scoop up a beakful of water and hopefully a fish dinner. An adolescent pelican flounders in the surf after an unsuccessful dive.

I have found the vibrant colors and dramatic creatures of Bonaire to be inspirational. The brilliant Caribbean light bounces off the intense Bonaire colors – mustard yellow houses, neon green iguanas, turquoise water, coral pink flamingos, the incredible purples of the salt pans against the white mountains of salt. Bonaire is a truly rich visual experience. I hope my paintings reflect some of that intensity.
