Sinuous and amorphous the octopus slips over the ocean bottom. Sometimes smooth and pale almost transparent, it can suddenly switch to roughly textured, deep red color and opaque. This one curls in a shape like the blossoming of a flower – the trumpet of an underwater lily.

Reflections tell more about the surroundings. Sun, sky, plants give color to the water. Movements of the water surface from feeding flamingos, legs in repose and possibly a gentle breeze break and flow the colors into streaks, pools and puffs.

To see the flowers for the bush. The yellow flowers dotted the crest of this large massing plant from a distance, it seemed covered by a frosting of yellow. Pretty as they are I have not found out yet what kind of bush this is.

Note since my initial description: It has been suggested that this might be related to a campanulata, or a spathodea.

A companion piece to On the Edge, Blue Wall takes in the view at the horizon where gulls congregate. In the distance, a thin line of the uninhabited island of Klein Bonaire separates sea from sky. The colors of the sea are mimicked in the discolorations of the cement wall.

A mix of different colored donkeys nibble at the small tufts of new grass growing amongst the rocks. The feral donkeys of Bonaire come in shades from chocolate brown to light gray and still show the distinctive black strip on the shoulder from their African ancestors.

Flamingos Walking is a step away from my usual choice of media – oil and canvas. This special painting has been created for use outdoors in Bonaire. The material is board with acrylic painting sealed with clear acrylic varnish. After several years exclusively using oil paint this was quite a challenge with wonderful results with almost life-size flamingos at hand.
