Purple Callas

Purple Callas by Linda Richter
Purple Callas

Purple Callas
Two color variations of callas – a deep purple and a warm rosy pink. Mini callas come in more than just white so bring on the color. Just one bunch of callas would not do. Still wrapped in cellophane and brought straight home from the yearly flower show. The plastic film reflects, transforms, and veils.

Divi Exposed
The gnarled skeleton of a divi divi tree is dramatically lit by the sun breaking through the clouds. Young Divi Divi trees grow bent from the almost constant wind here on Bonaire. Yet the wind does not defeat them and they grow strong and thick with the years. The stormy sky is reflected in the deep color of the ocean.

Tiger Lily
A tiger lily blossom is much like the face of a bird – overlapping petals or feathers surround the center or eye. Colors are intense or even more so than a parrot. This painting has blown the blossom up beyond big yet even the limits of the canvas cannot contain the entire flower. Fun and bold just as a tiger lily should be.

Tiger Lily Bloom
The intense orange and yellow of the tiger lily comes to life. Some just one and sometimes a row of them line the back roads of New Hampshire. Lush and green foliage sets off the brilliant orange of the blossoms.

Trupial Brunch
The trupial as a regular garden visitor flashes a bright yellow and black but only up close can you see the dab of blue eye shadow.

The traditional Bonairean kadushi cactus fence made from straight tips cut and interlocked against a wire fence. If done with skill, the cactus pieces take root and the fence becomes a living and growing thing. The cactuses flower and produce fruit creating the perfect brunch line for a pair of trupials. Many other birds and animals will join the buffet line like our native prikichis and even fruit bats.

Yellow Flowers
To see the flowers for the bush. The yellow flowers dotted the crest of this large massing plant from a distance, it seemed covered by a frosting of yellow. Pretty as they are I have not found out yet what kind of bush this is.

Note since my initial description: It has been suggested that this might be related to a campanulata, or a spathodea.
